The close-up in the gallery was taken in open sun with no filter, which shows the scale of the cells better than a number would. They are large, flattened diamonds, and the fabric sits close enough to the body that the shape underneath is the shape you see.

White also behaves differently wet. Out of the pool the knit clings and the cells close up, so it reads more solid soaked than dry.

One size with real stretch. It suits a small-to-medium frame, and the open structure gives it more room than a solid knit cut to the same pattern.

  Hand wash cold on its own the first few times. White open knit takes up dye from anything darker sharing the water.

  Lay flat to dry out of direct sun. No dryer and no iron; heat kills the elastane.

  Sunscreen and self-tan mark white knit permanently. So do rings and rough jewellery.

  Rinse after seawater or chlorine — both degrade the stretch and yellow white fibre over time.
