Stop Calculating What Will Stain

Half a session can go on quietly working out what is going to leave a mark. This deletes that calculation. It is a panel of glossy black PVC that goes over the bed before anything starts and gets wiped down with a cloth when you are finished. Nothing gets through it, nothing marks it, and the mattress underneath stays entirely unaware. No laundry cycle, no drying time.

It is completely liquid-tight, which covers squirting, oil, lubricant, wax, massage oil and wine. It measures 200 by 220 cm (78.7 by 86.6 in), enough to cover a King or California King with overhang left to tuck, and oversized on a Queen. The high-gloss black finish runs on both faces, so either side can go up. The surface is slick and cool under a hand, and a lot of people end up appreciating that as much as the practical side of it.

Be clear about what this is: a play sheet rather than bedding. Vinyl does not breathe, and a whole night asleep on it would not be comfortable. It goes down for the occasion and gets lifted again afterwards. It starts cold and warms with body heat, and some people put a towel at the pillow end. Clean it with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry it before folding, since moisture caught in a fold will eventually smell. Fold rather than creasing it hard, and store it away from heat sources, because badly stored PVC takes a permanent crease. If silicone toys are going on it, skip silicone lubricant and keep everything water-based.
