Start with the metal, because that is what you will notice

PU leather, double-sided, with the stitch line running the full length of each strap. The thigh and waist straps are unlined so they keep their shape and do not roll. The wrist and ankle cuffs get the plush lining instead, which is what stops the edge biting once there is weight on the hook.

Six pieces come to about 2 lb (900 g) together — heavy enough to feel like gear, light enough to pack.

Restraint is a two-person skill

None of the above matters if the basics are not in place. Before a single buckle closes:

  • Pick a safe word and a silent signal both of you can use — tapping twice, or dropping something noisy that is already in the hand. The blindfold takes sight away, so the restrained person needs an exit that does not rely on being seen.
  • Fasten every cuff so two fingers still slide underneath. Tighter is not better.
  • Look at hands and feet regularly. Colour draining, skin going cold, pins and needles — any of those and the cuff comes off straight away.
  • Have blunt safety scissors in the room, within reach of whoever is free.
  • Nobody who is restrained gets left on their own, not even while you answer the door.
  • Sober only. Alcohol and drugs dull the signals that keep this safe.
  • No strap goes near the neck, ever.

Measure a thigh sitting down rather than standing — that is the larger number, and it is the one the cuff has to clear.

The waist strap takes the load, the cross harness hangs from its back D-ring, and the thigh cuffs anchor the bottom. Wrist cuffs clip in at the sides. Worn over leggings and a top it reads as a harness; worn on skin it does not.

Keeping it

Damp cloth, mild soap, then let it dry completely before it goes away — particularly the plush lining, which stays wet longer than the leather. Out of sunlight and off radiators. Flat or hanging, never folded hard, or the straps take a crease that does not come out.
